I mentioned in my previous post about how to boost your energy levels when feeling overwhelmed, that I hate the taste of water. As a new member of the vegetarian family, I know that water is so important for our health and over all functionality. So to make water a more tasteful experience for me, I started drinking lemon water. I had to get my flavor somehow, and lemon provides some major health benefits that are good for everyone.
Here are 3 reasons why you should spice up your water game….
- Excellent source of Vitamin C – The vitamin C found in lemon water acts as an antioxidant and fights bacteria in your body. You reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke, and lower your risk of getting the common cold. Do you remember when you were sick as a kid, and your mother told you to drink lemon tea? Well drinking warm lemon water does the same trick. This is an easy way to get your daily dose of vitamin C.
- Better digestion – Drinking lemon water will help flush toxins out of your body. When your liver and bile function properly, your bowels become more regular. And who doesn’t want regular bowels? #justsayin
- It improves your skin quality – Its been said that drinking lemon water may help reduce wrinkles. For me, that’s a plus! I smile a lot so I definitely don’t want wrinkle lines. If your skin looses moisture it becomes dry and prone to wrinkles – and none of us want that. I also struggle with acne around that time of the month, and I noticed a slight improvement in my skin once I started drinking religiously. I wasn’t breaking out as much, and that’s always a success in my book!
